when is the best time to visit RUAHA NATIONAL PARK?
Similar to other Tanzanian national parks, the ideal time to explore Ruaha is during the extended dry period from June to October. The weather is cooler in this period compared to the hot and dry season from mid-December to mid-March.
The parched season is also ideal for observing wildlife as animals are attracted to the shrinking water sources and the grass is too low for concealment.
Bird lovers should plan their visit to Tanzania during the European winter months from December to April to see migratory birds in abundance. Certain lodges shut down during the extended rainy season (March-May), therefore you must remain adaptable while searching for lodging.
Where is RUAHA PARK located and how to get there?
Ruaha's secluded location makes it hard to reach, but the effort is more than worth it for the isolated safari paradise that lies ahead. Flight connections are not as frequent on the Southern Safari Circuit due to its lack of popularity.
Traveling to Ruaha is best done by plane for convenience and comfort, although you can also opt to drive there. Should you choose to drive, you will gain a fascinating understanding of rural Tanzanian culture, and you can appreciate the constantly beautiful and diverse scenery. If you choose to make a brief visit to Morogoro or Iringa, you can experience the traditional way of village life.
The distance between Dar es Salaam and Ruaha is 625 km, with a road trip covering the distance in approximately 9 hours. Another option is to take a drive from Iringa, which is just 130 kilometers from here.
Traveling by airplane significantly reduces the duration of the journey. Regular flights from Dar es Salaam, Arusha, the Serengeti, Kigoma, and Dodoma to the nearby airstrips, Msembe and Jongomero, are readily available.
Coastal Aviation and Safari Airlink run flights departing from Dar es Salaam. Private flights are available for booking upon request.
